About Georgia

Georgia Ciavatta (b. 1986) is an Italian vocalist, composer and vocal coach based between Switzerland and Italy. Her work moves fluidly between jazz, alternative pop and contemporary songwriting — a voice shaped by tradition, but restless with it.

From 2008 to 2016 she was the lead voice of Sugarpie & The Candymen, releasing four albums on Irma Records and touring hundreds of clubs and festivals across Europe, the US and beyond — Umbria Jazz and Umbria Jazz Winter, Jazz Ascona (Audience Award winners, 2011), Madrid Jazz Festival, Offtown Festival and Le Méridien Étoile in Paris, among many others. A collaboration with Renzo Arbore brought the band to the Christmas Concert at the Vatican on Rai 1 and to Italian radio and TV including Quelli dello Swing, Stereonotte, Caterpillar and Radio2 Social Club.

In 2017 she released My Favourite Songs, a deeply personal take on early twentieth-century standards recorded with a quintet of longtime collaborators. It was the first step toward a more authorial voice — one that would find its fullest expression years later with ISOLA.

Released in October 2024 on Ultra Sound Records, Facing Me is her debut album with ISOLA — seven original songs written between Switzerland and Italy, blending alt-pop, jazz textures and poetic writing into something intimate, confessional and sometimes cinematic. The album was presented live at Teatro dei Filodrammatici in Piacenza and Teatro Verdi in Fiorenzuola, in a crossover format weaving music, spoken word and dance.

Alongside ISOLA, Georgia performs with Conférence International, a trio with Swiss pianist Stewy von Wattenwyl and German guitarist Jörg Enz dedicated to forgotten gems of jazz, blues and bossa nova. She also leads various acoustic duo and quartet projects across Italy and Switzerland with guitarists Renato Podestà and Nicola Pastori.

Trained at the JazzCampus Basel and with a degree in music pedagogy from the Bern University of the Arts (HKB), she currently teaches voice at Konsi Bern and at MSZB. Her approach — learning by doing — draws from her own path as a performer: a teaching philosophy rooted in expressive freedom, curiosity, and the conviction that every voice has its own language to find.
